LaWanda Maria Butler, also known as: Madea, Mrs Besley and Leapold Dina, 63 of St. Michaels, MD departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2024, in Cambridge, MD. LaWanda was born November 8, 1960, in Easton, MD to Annie Bernice Butler and the late James Author Butler.
LaWanda was educated in the Talbot County Public School System. She also attended Chesapeake College, where she earned a degree in word processing, which she used to obtain employment at Caldwell Banker Real Estate in Alexander, Virginia. She worked there for 7 years. She was also employed at the Maritime Museum in St. Michaels.
While living in Wittman, MD, LaWanda attended New St. John’s United Methodist Church. Afterwards, she moved to St. Michaels, and she attended Union United Methodist Church, when able.
LaWanda enjoyed field hockey and softball while in school. She helped the young players with their practice outside of school. She enjoyed writing. She put together a book of her poems. LaWanda loved coloring, puzzles, singing, dancing, laughing, and spending time with her family and friends. She would also try her hand at inventing.
LaWanda was preceded in death by her father, James A. Butler and her brother James D. Butler and a very, very close friend Carolyn.
Left to remember LaWanda’s many antics and laughter are her mother Bernice Butler of St. Michaels, her sister, Jean Butler of Easton, two sisters/friends: Terri Muse of Washington, DC and Elizabeth Smith of North Carolina; her goddaughter, Wanda Reid; her godson, Lane Brummell, Jr.; one uncle, Richard Cooper of St. Michaels; 6 nieces: Angel and Ramona Butler of Virginia Beach, LaToya Cooper of Easton, Vernette Palmer of McDaniel, Candace Cooper of Virginia Beach, Janelle Cooper of Baltimore; 2 nephews: Patrick Butler of Germany and Michael Cooper of St. Michaels; 7 great nieces: Aiesha Jones of Eastern Shore of VA, Taiya Alsup of VA Beach, Asia and Karlee Holly, Kendal Camper, Seyven Ray and Kaelyn Hicks; 3 great nephews: TJ Solano and Nylon Jones VA Beach, Christopher Felton, McDaniel; one great great nephew Titan Solano, VA Beach; and her two very dear friends: Joseph Standford and Janet Goldsborough; and a host of other cousins relatives, family, and friends.
